Dinner with Timothy Geithner
Last week, I had the good fortune to be invited to the Economic Club of Chicago’s annual black tie event. The guest speaker was US Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner, who answered questions submitted by the members of the club.
The evening was very interesting, with good company and great dialogue, and at one point I felt like Secretary Geithner was speaking directly to me. He was delving into details about how important it will be for the country to learn from the recent economic crisis. Aside from the learning that we will all gain simply by surviving this turmoil, he stressed that formal education about economics is critical for citizens at an early age. To hit home the current lack of education on economics, he told the audience that even his formal schooling only included one course in economics, and that was in college. For the record, he did not care for it.
We can do better! How is this related directly to me? Well, NogginLabs partnered with EverFi to create a ground-breaking, award-winning curriculum for high school and college age students in microeconomics. It’s a great project that we’re so proud of! You can check it out here. In addition, next year we are hoping to have the opportunity to build a course for high school students on macroeconomics, and everyone on our staff is clamoring to work on it. Economics is the place to be if you want to make a big change to the country, and world, at large. We love being a part of that.
